UK PUNK ICONS JOINED BY BUZZCOCKS AT DEBUT WAKEFIELD OUTDOOR CONCERT SERIES

UK punk and new wave icons The Stranglers have been announced as the third headliner of the upcoming debut Live at Tileyard North concert series. A new two-week series of outdoor live music in central Wakefield, The Stranglers will take to the stage on Friday 21st August at the historic courtyard of Rutland Mills.
First formed in 1974, The Stranglers no BS attitude was embraced by the punk movement of the late 70s, but their musicianship and menace transcended the genre, creating a sound unique to themselves. With their first three albums (Rattus Norvegicus ,No More Heroes and Black and White) being released within an astonishing 13 months of each other, scoring hit singles with ‘Peaches’, ‘No More Heroes’ and ‘Walk On By’. Further success was to follow with ‘Always The Sun’, ‘Strange Little Girl’and the mercurial ‘Golden Brown’, amongst many others, earning the group 24 Top 40 singles and 20 Top 40 albums in a career spanning six different decades.
In 2024 The Stranglers’ 50th anniversary year was packed with celebratory sell-out tours across the world and headline slots at festivals worldwide, including a sell-out performance at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall. The subsequent live album ‘Fifty Years In Black’ made history when it became the band’s 20th top 40 album in the UK.
Fans can expect to enjoy the charming interplay of bass playing icon Jean-Jacques Burnel and longest serving guitarist/vocalist Baz Warne co-fronting the band as they navigate their way through a varied set of six decades worth of hits, hidden gems and fan favourites. Cemented ever since the busy ‘Fifty Years In Black’ year, JJ and Baz are joined by mainstay Jim Macaulay on drums and newest member, the harmonically dexterous Toby Hounsham on keyboards.
The Stranglers will be joined at Tileyard North by a full supporting line-up including fellow punk legends Buzzcocks. One of the most important and influential bands of the punk era, Buzzcocks are best known for smash hits including ‘Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve?)’ and ‘What Do I Get?’. Finding new purpose as a trio after the passing of beloved singer and guitarist Pete Shelley, the band have been busy on tour with The Stranglers and The Sex Pistols, and will release new album ‘Attitude Adjustment’ in January 2026. The support bill for The Stranglers, Live at Tileyard North will be completed by acclaimed Coventry alternative-indie quintet FEET and buzzy Irish garage rock trio Adore.
Presented by local independent promoters Futuresound, Live at Tileyard North will bring Wakefield’s first outdoor concert series to life with two weeks of incredible outdoor live music experiences in the courtyard of the impressive Tileyard North development.
Awarded Regional Promoter of the Year at the 2025 Live Awards; the veteran independent West Yorkshire promoters have been operating in the region for nearly thirty years and are the trusted team behind large-scale outdoor events such as Live at Leeds, Slam Dunk, Live at York Museum Gardens, Live at Kirkstall Abbey and many more.
Futuresound are excited to bring their decades of experience to Wakefield’s Tileyard North for a series of unique performances from musical icons and rising stars alike throughout August 2026.
The Stranglers join previously announced Live at Tileyard North headliners the Vaccines, who will be in Wakefield performing their critically acclaimed 2011 debut album What Did You Expect From the Vaccines? in full to celebrate 15 years since its release on Sunday 30th August and Sophie Ellis-Bextor who will headline the outdoor venue on Thursday 27th August.
